Freer than Free

Small feet barely touching the earth of the meadow

Hands stretched for the welcoming sky

At five, there’s no baggage to carry along

No heartbreak or plans gone awry

Sun glints in her silver hair and green eyes

There’s only today, and the clouds in the sky

Are princes and horses – she’s freer than free

As only God’s beloved can be

But life moved along, ensnared her free spirit

In shoulds and shouldn’ts, coulds and couldn’t

The fears of her parents and strife in the world

Storms and obsessions inside her swirled

‘Til God caught her up and taught her to see

There’s only today, and the clouds in the sky

Keep her from burning – she’s freer and free

As only God’s beloved can be

The fruit of freedom is born of forgiveness

And love fuels the heart of the child

The vision of spirit pierces all darkness

And tames the heart of the wild

Let God bring you welcome dreams to fulfill

Here in today, in your heart He dwells

He’ll keep the promise, you’ll be freer than free

As only God’s beloved can be
