Promoting ED Awareness on Campus
We are often asked for ideas to promote eating disorders awareness. Below you will find some of Shannon's favorite ways to share information about eating disorders with students and staff.

-Create a 'traveling display' with magazine clips, student quotes, statistics and other provocative information and images to stimulate awareness and conversation
-Post dry erase or poster boards with questions about beauty, body image, self-esteem, media impact and mental illness to stimulate student and staff dialogue
-Create a , or website blog site to share comments and dialogue about eating disorders
-Facilitate student-to-student and student-staff mentoring relationships to reduce the likelihood of using disordered eating behaviors to cope with stresses of campus life. For more on this, visit the MentorConnect webpage
-Create a dedicated space on the campus health and wellness webpage to share information about eating disorder issues and personal recovery stories
-Distribute nutritional and wellness guidelines in all campus cafes and cafeterias, and in all residence halls
-Educate students about 'ideal body weight', media alteration of images and realistic standards for beauty/attractiveness
-Observe National Eating Disorders Awareness Week
-Encourage student participation in the Eating Disorder Coalition's work to lobby Congress for mental health parity
-Create and host Health & Wellness Week activities
-Create an Active Minds organization on campus
-Form student support and activism groups and encourage students to hold each other accountable to health and wellness standards
- Set clear guidelines for how to help someone who is in trouble, including a chain of command for involving staff in student health issues
-Offer items in campus stores reflecting a commitment to healthy beauty and wellness
-Involve campus Greek and athletic organizations in any and all healthy eating initiatives
-Host a campus Beauty Undressed event!
