Warning Signs 101
The following describes the major warning signs that can indicate the presence of a developing eating disorder.

1. Any changes in mealtime habits
2. Assertion of being full, allergic to, or not hungry for foods at mealtime
3. Sudden weight change, especially if out of proportion with food consumption
4. Scrapes on backs of hands
5. Reports by dentist of enamel erosion, irritated gums
6. Post-mealtime trips to the bathroom, sound of water running, flushed cheeks
7. Evidence of diuretic, laxative, enema, speed use
8. Rigorous exercise regimen
9. Sudden changes in priorities, mood, activities, relationships, performance level
10. Preoccupation with appearance and weight
11. Fainting or dizzy spells
12. Complaints of being cold, evidence of excessive fatigue or insomnia
IN EXTREME CASES: fine hair (lanugo) that covers body, loss of menses/infertility, heart attack, osteopenia/osteoporosis, stunted growth, rupture of esophagus, colostomy, kidney/renal failure, anemia, hypoglycemia, liver damage, death
